A deep sense of ancient history is woven into the very hills around Bradan Lodges. But just ten minutes down the road, on the sunlit shores of Loch Gilp, that history stepped right out of the past and came roaring to life at the Lochgilphead Celtic & Pictish Festival over three days from 31st July to 2nd August 2026.
If you were staying at Bradan Lodges at that time, you might have heard the thunder of tribal drums drifting across the water! For local residents and lodge guests alike, it was an incredible celebration of the rich Celtic and Pictish heritage that defines this unique corner of Scotland.
A Celebration of Ancient Argyll
The lochside burst into life with traditional living history encampments, authentic craft demonstrations, interactive stalls, and even axe throwing. Visitors were treated to a rare glimpse into early Scottish life, from ancient weaving techniques and wood turning to historic open-fire cooking and shelter reconstructions.
There was also a pop-up by the amazing Kilmartin Museum, offering a fascinating insight into the archaeology and rock art that make the area one of the most historically significant landscapes in Europe.
Thrilling Battles & Beats That Got Everyone Dancing
The highlight for many had to be the breathtaking living history re-enactments. The re-enactment group Regia Angolarum brought the clash of steel, wood, and shields to life with astonishing realism. Watching armoured warriors clash against the backdrop of the shining loch was a memory to treasure.
And then came the music! The legendary tribal pipes and drums band Clann an Drumma took to the field, delivering a raw, primal energy that had young and old alike dancing in the sunshine.
