Island Hopping

Bradan Estate is perfectly situated as a gateway to the islands – Gigha, Islay and Jura can be visited in a day from Bradan Estate during the spring and summer months, and we offer short breaks for those wishing to go on to visit the magical islands of Mull, Tiree, Colonsay and Coll from the port of Oban, which is an hour’s drive from Bradan Estate.

Kilmartin Glen

Kilmartin Glen which has recently been voted as the fourth most interesting place to visit in the world by the New York Times, six miles from the lodges, holds the highest concentration of prehistoric monuments and historical sites in Scotland, with over 800 monuments in a six-mile radius. The museum ( which also has an excellent café) houses a rich treasure trove of neolithic and prehistoric artefacts.’ The museum is currently closed and is due to be fully open after a multi-million-pound extension in the spring of 2023, but all the monuments are open.

Tayvallich

Tayvallich is one of the prettiest villages on the West Coast, situated on Loch Sween with lovely views of the harbour, a welcoming café and the excellent Tayvallich Inn (eight miles from the lodges.) The Taynish Nature Reserve offers the most beautiful walks amongst ancient oak woodlands with views of Jura, gorgeous coastline and a high chance of seeing otters at play. Relax afterwards at the Tayvallich Inn, which serves wonderful seafood fresh off the boat, with tables on outside decking.’

Crinan Canal

The world-famous Crinan Canal (four miles) is known as the most beautiful nautical short cut in Britain, with breathtaking scenery along its eight mile path. End the day at the lovely Crinan Hotel with it’s delicious Seafood Bar, or enjoy a home-baked snack at the Crinan Coffee shop with views over the Sound of Jura and the iconic red and white lighthouse.’

Knapdale Beavers

In 2009 Knapdale Forest ( seven miles) was chosen as a major site for the re-introduction of beavers into the wild in Britain. The project has proved a resounding success with the beavers reproducing and creating many natural dams and lodges. Enjoy a fascinating walk around the scenic Loch Coille Bharr and see for yourself the evidence of the beavers’ activity. Guided walks to see the beavers at dawn and dusk.’

Restaurants and Shops

Excellent cafes and restaurants, many specialising in locally-caught seafood, abound near Bradan Lodges. The Kilberry Inn, Tayvallich Inn and the Crinan Hotel are all an easy drive away. There are two nearby welcoming pubs, the Horseshoe Inn and the Kilmartin Hotel, which are five and ten minute drives away respectively. Lochgilphead – just ten minutes drive away – has all you need with two supermarkets, an excellent deli, butcher’s and wet fish shop.
